Today at the white house people from all over the country are gathering to participate in a FEMA Think Tank event. What is FEMA Think Tank, you might ask?
FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) recognizes that the best emergency management plans will stem from people living in effected communities who deal with the day-to-day challenges associated with disasters. That is why all members of the public and state, local, and tribal governments are being asked to voice their ideas on the best disaster recovery plans. The goal of FEMA Think Tank is to facilitate these constructive conversations.
Goal achieved. Twitter and other social media outlets are being used as sounding boards today and people are collaborating to come up with solutions for emergency situations.
In the case of disasters, the goal is to save as many lives as possible. Often this means needing to send people to hospitals across the state, maybe even across the country. However, in order to provide the best care possible, doctors need access to patients’ medical records. EHRs (Electronic Health Records) and image exchange platforms may soon become an integral part of disaster recovery plans due to their ability to rapidly send information in trauma cases.
Time will only tell. For now, find out what’s being discussed at the White House today on twitter, #FEMAThinkTank.
